GERMANY: July 13–July 17, 2026
World Champion Roll with Pepper Salami & Horseradish

Horseradish is one of the oldest spice and cultivated plants in Germany. Its intense spiciness was already appreciated in the Middle Ages, making it a popular accompaniment to meat and sausage dishes.
To cap off our Culinary World Cup, we’re serving up a genuine “World Champion Roll.” The recipe was developed by the German Bakers’ Academy and was later even presented by soccer World Cup champion and baker Jürgen Klinsmann.
With pepper salami and horseradish, this roll combines bold flavors and serves as the perfect finale to our World Cup bread journey through the soccer nations of the world.
ENGLAND: July 6–July 10, 2026
Egg Salad with Cress and Black Pepper

Hardly any other snack is as closely associated with Great Britain as the classic sandwich. It owes its name to an English noble family: According to legend, the Earl of Sandwich had his meals served between two slices of bread so that he wouldn’t have to take a break from playing cards.
To this day, the sandwich remains an integral part of British culinary culture. The combination of egg and cress is particularly popular and has been a staple of traditional afternoon tea for decades. It is typically cut into small triangles and served as a savory starter to accompany tea and pastries.
As part of our World Cup Bread series, this British classic, with an extra dash of black pepper, is coming to DELI.
FRANCE: June 29–July 3, 2026
Baguette with Comté and Pear Mustard

The tangy Comté cheese has been produced in the French Jura region for many centuries. In the past, these large wheels of cheese were much more than just a delicacy: thanks to their long shelf life, they helped feed people in the mountainous regions even during long, snowy winters.
And what about the famous baguette? Many believe it originated in the Middle Ages. In fact, it didn’t become popular until the early 20th century. Its elongated shape allowed it to bake more quickly. And before long, it became a symbol of French baking.
Paired with Comté cheese and pear mustard, this makes up our French World Cup special for this week. Available only at the DELI.
CANADA: June 22–26, 2026
Rye Bread with Pastrami & Onion Relish

Many of Montréal’s famous delicacies have their roots in the recipes of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. At the end of the 19th century, they brought their knowledge of curing and smoking meat to Canada, thereby leaving a lasting mark on the city’s deli culture.
The so-called “Montreal Smoked Meat,” which is often compared to pastrami, became particularly well-known. Served on rye bread, it has become a true classic and remains an indispensable part of the city’s traditional delis to this day.
With pastrami and onion relish, we’re bringing a taste of this Canadian culinary tradition to the DELI.
MEXICO: June 15–19, 2026
Pan Fino with Black Beans & Turkey Breast

Black beans have been one of the most important ingredients in Mexican cuisine for centuries. Long before meat became a regular part of the diet, they were an indispensable component of many meals and provided valuable nutrients for daily life.
In Mexico, beans are traditionally served in tortillas, stews, or as a side dish. Today, however, they’ve also found their way into modern recipes and are constantly being reimagined. Our World Cup sandwich combines this culinary classic with tender turkey breast, blending traditional ingredients with a modern sandwich concept.
A little culinary journey to Mexico, no long-haul flight required.
United States: June 8–12, 2026
Bagel mit Cream Cheese & Avocado

Today, the bagel is an integral part of American breakfast culture and is a staple of New York City delis. However, its roots lie not in the United States, but in the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe. The ring-shaped pastry was first mentioned in Krakow as early as the beginning of the 17th century. Jewish immigrants brought the bagel to New York at the end of the 19th century, where it quickly became a popular breakfast staple.
Its distinctive shape also has a practical origin: the hole in the center used to make it easier to cook the dough and simplify transport. What began as a practical solution later became the trademark of a pastry that is now known around the world.
Our World Cup Bread of the Week offers a modern take on this classic – with cream cheese and avocado.
