What makes it special: Every loaf of bread has a story behind it. Some recipes have evolved over centuries, while others were influenced by immigrants or have become an integral part of their country\u2019s culinary culture.

Horseradish is one of the oldest spice and cultivated plants in Germany. Its intense spiciness was already appreciated in the Middle Ages, making it a popular accompaniment to meat and sausage dishes. <\/p>


To cap off our Culinary World Cup, we\u2019re serving up a genuine \u201cWorld Champion Roll.\u201d The recipe was developed by the German Bakers\u2019 Academy and was later even presented by soccer World Cup champion and baker J\u00fcrgen Klinsmann. <\/p>

Hardly any other snack is as closely associated with Great Britain as the classic sandwich. It owes its name to an English noble family: According to legend, the Earl of Sandwich had his meals served between two slices of bread so that he wouldn’t have to take a break from playing cards. <\/p>


To this day, the sandwich remains an integral part of British culinary culture. The combination of egg and cress is particularly popular and has been a staple of traditional afternoon tea for decades. It is typically cut into small triangles and served as a savory starter to accompany tea and pastries. <\/p>

The tangy Comt\u00e9 cheese has been produced in the French Jura region for many centuries. In the past, these large wheels of cheese were much more than just a delicacy: thanks to their long shelf life, they helped feed people in the mountainous regions even during long, snowy winters. <\/p>


And what about the famous baguette?<\/strong> Many believe it originated in the Middle Ages. In fact, it didn’t become popular until the early 20th century. Its elongated shape allowed it to bake more quickly. And before long, it became a symbol of French baking. <\/p>

Many of Montr\u00e9al\u2019s famous delicacies have their roots in the recipes of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. At the end of the 19th century, they brought their knowledge of curing and smoking meat to Canada, thereby leaving a lasting mark on the city\u2019s deli culture. <\/p>

The so-called \u201cMontreal Smoked Meat,\u201d which is often compared to pastrami, became particularly well-known. Served on rye bread, it has become a true classic and remains an indispensable part of the city\u2019s traditional delis to this day. <\/p>
